A five part re-accounting of God’s personal involvement in the life and affairs of one of His servants. Part Five
With the exception of blood pressure medications for the three prior years, prescription drugs had never been part of my life. As a new “heart patient,” that was no longer the case. While in the hospital I was administered more than thirteen drugs every day. Eleven came in the morning followed by the remaining two in the evening. Results from this onslaught of medication were an extremely sore stomach and hallucinations of gargantuan proportions. These conditions interfered with sleep and normal food consumption. The hallucinations invaded every part of my room and mind. The answer was the Word of God, where I went with the aid of the Hospital’s in-room Gideon Bible. Hours were spent in the chair near my bed in prayer and immersion into the Word. Among others, solace and comfort came through the words of Job, who wrote, “You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in your providence watched over my spirit.” Job 10.12 NIV Getting close to the Lord was very rewarding and provided the best way to deal with the demons that were hovering in the room. The stomach problem was another situation.
My doctor’s decision was to have a sonogram performed on my stomach and GI track. Results were inconclusive, but they did determine my Gallbladder was swollen and inflamed. Had the meds not made my stomach hurt the condition with my Gallbladder would have gone undetected and put more strain on my weakened heart. They took away some of the meds and added two that were specifically designed to help with the Gallbladder situation. Ordered Steps.
On the day we left the hospital, eight days after the event, we went to the Rx counter to collect our order. We were pleasantly surprised to discover our “drive-out” price had been dramatically impacted by the Rx provision in our medical insurance. This is the insurance that came into-force as a result of my position with the Branson, MO company. We paid the co-op portion which was very affordable. Ordered Steps.
Without doubt, God has been involved in and with every circumstance associated with the event of August 6, 2012. Through it all I have reaffirmed my dependence on His grace and His provision. His Word sets the facts in place. From his first general epistle, Peter wrote, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5.6-7 NIV
It must be said: I have a fresher outlook on life because of my understanding of how each of us should allow for God’s involvement in the affairs of our lives. As David wrote in his proverbs, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Proverb 16.9 NIV
