Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. Genesis 2:18-22 NASB
God’s creative work was not complete until He made woman. God looked upon Adam and saw his need for a suitable helper, one who would complement him for daily work, procreation and mutual support through companionship. He could have made her from the dust of the earth, as He made man. God made the choice to make her from the man’s flesh and bone. The word fashioned has the deep meaning of built or established (made permanent). Women are not inferior to men. They are also created in the image of God and equal in all relationships to God and others. The Bible teaches men to honor, protect and cherish women.
In taking one of Adam’s ribs, God created women in His image and likeness just as He created man. God formed and equipped both man and woman for various functions and roles, but both sexes are given the same goal: to worship and glorify God. This is our responsibility in life.
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27 NASB
Man was created as a social being, made for fellowship, not power; man will not live until he loves, giving himself away to another on his own level. Woman is presented wholly as his partner and equal counterpart, valued and treasured for herself alone; nothing is said about her as a child bearer. The sexes complement each other in every way – what a wonderful creation! We were not simply born to exist upon this earth without purpose. We were created to worship God!
In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created. Genesis 5:1b-2 NASB
Please remember you were fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). Please accept your function and role in life and live abundantly.
