“Local Body Must Have a Desire to be Involved by Wylie Comp Faith Harvest Ministeries

churchReluctant participation in anything leaves a lot to be desired. If your heart isn’t in it, the effort will be a burden and the reward will be less than anticipated. Let your imagination go and see if you can picture a local group of anything being involved in some program or process that requires participation without enthusiasm or desire. What do you see? Whatever
comes to mind, it will involve some level of boredom, bleakness, bad case of
the blahs, and a little or a lot of “I don’t wanna.”
The Word of God is ripe with instruction and examples as to what believers
should do and how they should react to being the custodians of Christ’s message to a lost and dying world. In writing to Titus, Paul said, “Remind the
people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good
,(emphasis mine), to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.”(Titus 3.1-2) Being prepared and ready to share is high on the “how to” list in getting the truth that we have within us out for those who need to know. In his first epistle, Peter wrote, “… in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”(1 Peter 3.15) As believers, we need to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. We should not be or become judgmental. More importantly,we should not think more highly of ourselves than we should.
(cf. Romans 12.3). The writer of Hebrews reminds all believers to “Keep on loving each other as brothers. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.”( Hebrews 13.2 )
We may know, or know of folks who claim to be a representative of the truth and that God has touched their life and now they are here to show us the way. There’s a test for these folks: Who sent you? And we might want to confirm whether or not they have a teachable spirit. A genuine and certainly significant part of being involved in outreach is the involvement of the local body that does the sending. The local body must have a desire to be involved in/with the work and share in the responsibility of getting it don
